Guidelines for Submission

Dear Wisconsin-affiliated Writers:

UW-Milwaukee’s Eat Local :: Read Local is now looking for submissions by writers with connections to Wisconsin. We aim to work with local businesses to connect with more of the community through poetry and hopefully reach some new readers.

We’re looking for poems or micro-fiction, 14-16 lines (shorter lines, ideally, as they’ll need to fit on a card). We’re also happy to publish reprints.

We’re looking for writing that relates to how you adjusted eating locally during the pandemic. Please share with us your new recipes, the family cookbook, the groceries left on the front steps for days after they were delivered, the bread you baked, and all the ways that have changed what eating locally means to you.

The writing doesn’t need to be food-related – we want work that speaks to a sense of “localness” and community, whatever those terms mean to you, or how those terms have changed for you. Any and all themes are welcome, so long as they are appropriate for a very general, public audience.

Payment will be a set of cards featuring your poem or prose piece and the opportunity to read at a partner venue where your work is featured (TBD).

The deadline for submissions is August 31st, 2021. All submissions should be sent in a PDF or Word document to eatlocal.readlocal@gmail.com.

We look forward to devouring your work!
